Sunbrella fabric resists the sun, rain, and humidity that wreck ordinary outdoor cushions in a single season. This solution-dyed acrylic is available at LOOMLAN Outdoor with free shipping and comes in multiple performance grades to match your specific exposure. Unlike surface-printed fabrics, the color runs through every fiber, so UV light can't bleach it out.

How Does Solution-Dyed Acrylic Hold Up to Sun and Rain?

The color is locked into the fiber before the yarn is woven, not printed on afterward. That means UV rays fade the surface at the same microscopic rate they fade the core -- which is to say, hardly at all over years of exposure. The acrylic itself repels water rather than absorbing it, so rain beads off and mildew spores can't take root in damp fabric. You can leave Sunbrella cushions outside through a storm and bring them in dry an hour later. Salt air, chlorine spray, and high humidity don't break down the fiber structure the way they do with cotton or untreated polyester.

Do You Have to Bring Cushions Inside for Winter?

You can, but it's not required in most climates. Sunbrella fabric itself won't rot, mildew, or fade over a winter left outside. The bigger concern is the foam or fiber fill inside the cushion -- prolonged freeze-thaw cycles and standing moisture can compress cheaper fills or encourage mold growth at the seams. If your winters are wet or you're near the coast, storing cushions in a dry shed or deck box prevents that wear on the insert. In arid or mild-winter regions, leaving them out under a furniture cover works fine. Either way, the fabric surface will look the same in spring.

Can I Clean Sunbrella With Bleach?

Yes -- it's one of the few outdoor fabrics you can. Mix one part household bleach to ten parts water, scrub the stain with a soft brush, then rinse thoroughly. The solution-dyed process means bleach won't strip the color, and it kills mildew spores on contact. For routine dirt, soap and water are enough. Sunbrella dries fast, so you're not waiting days for a cushion to be usable again. This makes it ideal for [poolside seating](/collections/outdoor-lounge-chairs) and [coastal dining sets](/collections/outdoor-dining-sets) where salt, sunscreen, and splashes are constant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Sunbrella fabric fade in direct sun?
It resists UV fade far better than printed or dyed-surface fabrics because the color is part of the fiber itself. Some lightening may occur over years of uninterrupted equatorial sun, but it's minimal compared to standard outdoor fabric.
Is it suitable for a coastal or salt-air location?
Yes. Salt spray and humid ocean air don't corrode acrylic the way they rust metal hardware or rot natural fibers. Rinse the fabric occasionally to prevent salt buildup, but the material itself is unaffected.
Can this stay outside all year?
The fabric can -- it won't mildew, rot, or freeze-crack. Whether you leave cushions out depends on your fill type and whether you use covers. The Sunbrella shell will be fine either way.
How do I store it over winter?
If you're storing cushions, make sure they're completely dry, then keep them in a shed, garage, or ventilated deck box. Don't seal damp fabric in plastic -- trapped moisture can cause mildew on the fill even though the Sunbrella shell resists it.
Does the fabric need waterproofing spray?
No. Sunbrella is water-repellent as manufactured. You can reapply a fabric guard like 303 after years of heavy use if you notice beading has diminished, but it's not required out of the box.
Is assembly or setup included with delivery?
Standard delivery is free curbside to the continental USA. Assembly, in-room placement, and packaging removal are available on request for an additional fee.
